Resume Tips - References

Choose your referees carefully. Always ensure that the referees you list have agreed to be contacted and that they intend to attest positively to your character and value as an employee.

If you are applying for a variety of positions, keep your referees informed of the types of roles you are applying for and the sort of responsibilities involved, so that they are aware of what sort of questions they will be asked.

Ensure that you have listed your referees with accurate and up-to-date job titles and contact information. Double check the phone numbers, email and addresses that you provide.

Friends and family are not valid referees. If you are a recent graduate or newly entering the workforce, consider using a tutor or career mentor as a referee.
