Dear Mr Albert,

I am writing to apply for the position of Policy Officer with the Education Branch of the Department of Education and Training, as advertised in the Public Service Jobs Journal on the 30th April 2009.

I graduated with a Bachelor and Masters of Education in 2001 from ABC University. I joined CDE Secondary School as an English and Philosophy teacher and became a popular and valuable member of the teaching staff from 2001 to 2008. I chose to pursue my interest in policy as I felt that my studies and knowledge of indigenous learning and communities was being underused.

I completed my Masters in Education, majoring in Indigenous Education, during which I developed a genuine love for working with Indigenous school communities and was fortunate to teach in an Indigenous school in Alice Springs for 6 months as part of my Masters research.

It is my objective to make a positive difference in the lives of Indigenous students and communities through contributing to policy development and supporting the existing projects and policies of the Department of Education and Training.

My understanding of contemporary research and policy regarding Indigenous education gives me an excellent foundation to provide practical policy advice. I am a skilled writer and researcher, with thoroughly developed communication skills. I am confident I would easily establish professional and reliable relationships with my Director, colleagues, internal and external stakeholders.

Yours sincerely
