Court Reporter Jobs in Australia
A Court Reporter, records, stores, retrieves, and transcribes pre-trial and trial proceedings for the court record. A Court Reporter may also operate computerised stenographic equipment to provide captions of live or pre-recorded broadcasts for the hearing-impaired.

Court Reporter jobs include:

  • taking notes in shorthand or use a stenotype or shorthand machine that prints letters on a paper tape
  • providing transcripts of proceedings upon the request of judges, lawyers, or the public
  • recording proceedings of courts, legislative assemblies, committee meetings, and other proceedings, using computerised recording equipment
  • transcribing recorded proceedings in accordance with court requirements
  • requesting a speaker to clarify inaudible statements for the record
  • filing a legible transcription of records of a court case with the court clerk’s office
  • filing and storing shorthand notes of court session
  • responding to requests during court sessions to read portions of the proceedings already recorded
  • verifying accuracy of transcripts by checking copies against original records of proceedings and accuracy of rulings by checking with judges
